Room Schedule

The toddler room is responsive to children’s interests to create meaningful learning experiences. Our philosophy prioritizes active participation, relationship building, flexible and adaptable methods, inquiry and play-based learning. West Ridge Early Education Centre promotes a healthy lifestyle with all children by providing a minimum of 2 hours of gross motor/outside play every day.

Daily Information Sharing

Sharing of information between staff and families is critical to the success of the program. Tadpoles is one way that we can keep you informed. Information such as how your child slept, ate, diaper changes and activities enjoyed is recorded for you. Please feel free to speak with any of your child’s teachers for an update on your child’s day or to share information about how their night/weekend was.

Meals and Snacks:

We provide a mid-morning and mid-afternoon snack and a hot lunch daily. We also provide homogenized milk and water for your child. We are proud of our 4-week rotational menu’s and follow the Canadian Food Guide. We strive to prepare the majority of food items in our kitchen, substituting sugary additives for healthier choices. We also role model eating with utensils, guiding the children as they self-serve and socialization at lunch times by sitting at the tables with the children. Our Centre is nut and egg free.

Diapering

We believe that diaper changes are an excellent opportunity for one on one interaction with your child. The teachers will sing, play and talk with your child while changing his/her diaper. We follow all public health guidelines for diaper changing routines. The diaper change area is disinfected after every diaper change and the teacher will wash her hands after every change. Parents are required to bring in diapers and wipes for their child. We accept and encourage the use of cloth diapers.

Toilet Training

We believe that each child develops at his or her own pace. With this in mind we will never force a child to sit on the toilet. However, at each diaper change, we will ask your child if they would like to try sitting on the toilet. We also may bring a few children into the bathroom at the same time to encourage learning from each other.

Sleep Time

Children have their own cot. We supply the cot sheets but please ensure that your child has a blanket for their bed. We wash the sheets and blankets here weekly or as needed. Please let us know how your child normally falls asleep. i.e. with pacifier, back rub, etc. The children go down for their naps after lunch, around 12:30 pm and sleep for up to 2.5 hours.
