West Ridge Early Education Centre agrees with the Council of Ministers of Education, Canada that clearly states: “When children are engaged in purposeful play, they are discovering, creating, improvising and expanding their learning. Viewing children as active participants in their own development and learning allows educators to move beyond preconceived expectations about what children should be learning, and focus on what they are learning.”
Room Structure:
Our three Pre JK rooms are licensed for up to 48 children, ages 39 months approximately – 57 months old.
Room Schedule:
West Ridge Early Education Centre fully supports an inclusive curriculum, with all children being active participants in regards to social interactions and developing the children’s abilities and skills. West Ridge Early Education Centre promotes a healthy lifestyle with all children, by providing a minimum of 2 hours of gross motor/outside play every day.
Daily information sharing:
Sharing of information between staff and families is critical to the success of the program. Tadpoles is one way that we can keep you informed. Information such as how your child slept, ate, bowel movements, and activities enjoyed is recorded for you. Please feel free to speak with any of your child’s teachers for an update on your child’s day as well.
Meals and Snacks:
We provide a mid-morning and mid-afternoon snack and a hot lunch daily. We also provide 2% milk and water for your child. We are proud of our 4-week rotational menu’s and follow the Canadian Food Guide. We strive to prepare the majority of food items in our kitchen, substituting sugary additives for healthier choices. We also role model eating with utensils, guiding the children as they self-serve and socialization at lunch times by sitting at the tables with the children. Our centre is nut-free and allergen-free upon request and is documented with an individualized plan.
Rest Time / Sleep Time:
Children are offered naptime from September to January (or to March based on the children), at which time this becomes a quiet time instead. This is to prepare the children for entry into school. Children have their own cot, we supply the cot sheets, but please ensure that your child has a blanket for their bed. We wash the sheets and blanket here weekly. Children who do not normally sleep (Sept. to Jan.) will be given quiet activities on their beds instead..
